Thursday, May 14 | 6-7:00 PM | The Community Room For more than a century fire lookouts have played a vital role in the detection of wildfires. While many of those lookouts have disappeared, some of those that remain offer unique hiking destinations with stunning views and fascinating history. In this one-hour presentation Cheryl Hill will talk about her new book Hiking Oregon’s Fire Lookouts, highlight some of the most rewarding lookout hikes, share stories from her journey to visit every standing lookout in the state, and explain how to rent a lookout. A Q&A session will follow the presentation.
Author Bio: Oregon native Cheryl Hill is an author, photographer, and lookout enthusiast. She works as a librarian in a public library and in her free time she enjoys volunteering, hiking, backpacking, camping, and working towards her goal of visiting every standing lookout in Oregon. She is the author of Mount Hood National Forest, Fire Lookouts of Oregon, and Hiking Oregon’s Fire Lookouts. Cheryl lives in the Portland area with her husband and two cats.
