Details: This hike has it all: A beach, a bog, and a bay. In other alliterative words, beauteous Bastendorff boasts bodaciously bountiful beauty!Driving time: 2 hours, 10 minutes

Hiking route: This is an out-and-back hike. We will begin with a mile-long walk on Bastendorff Beach, after which we'll head up to Yoakam Point for the express purpose of taking in the views of Bastendorff Beach and Cape Arago Lighthouse. From there, we will cross the Cape Arago Highway (look both ways before you cross!) and hit the Bastendorff Bog Trail, which will lead us to Sunset Bay, our turnaround point.

Distance: About 6.0 miles
Elevation gain : 400 feet
Pluses: A long walk on the beach, impressive views from Yoakam Point, and the beauty of Sunset Bay.
Minuses: Being wintertime and all, it’s certain boots will get a bit muddy, even if it’s not raining. We may have to do some hand-to-hand combat with bushes and shrubbery while hiking on Yoakam Point.

On the day of the hike: Meet at 8 am in the Douglas County Courthouse parking lot off of Fowler St., right behind the library building.
Bring water, lunch, and appropriate clothing for hiking.
If you are riding with somebody, be prepared to share gas expenses with your driver.
Please do not attend if you feel sick, are coughing, or have a fever.
The club hikes every other Saturday, rain or shine. Hiking is free, everybody is welcome.
