About this Event
Join us for a Hike and Yoga class led by ExploreMore Founder Haley Cottey.
Explore More is here to bring you a fun outdoor community event where we will get in nature and soak up the fresh air with a family friendly hike and some yoga in nature followed by optional lunch at Intrinsic Smokehouse and Brewery. We want to give you the opportunity to explore new trails and activities while meeting new people and building confidence outdoors.
Cost: $30
Hike Length: 3-4 miles
Event Overview: We will practice yoga for approximately 30 minutes. It will be a standing practice on a semi-even surface so no mat will be needed. Then we will talk about a few things such as outdoor and hiking ethics, what to do when you see a mountain biker coming etc We will hike 3-4 miles.
Parking: There is plenty of free parking at Rowlett Creek Preserve. Make sure you go to the main parking lot off of Centerville Rd. Some past members have reported the GPS taking them into the neighborhood but the main parking lot is off Centerville Rd.
What you bring: Please bring water and a snack if needed (but be sure to pack any trash out) and wear comfortable and weather appropriate clothes and tennis shoes. Trekking poles or a walking stick recommended if you would like assistance with avoiding tripping or assistance climbing hills. You will NOT need a yoga mat. Jacket recommended in the fall to early spring even if you don't think you will need it because you know... Texas weather can change its mind.
What to expect: We will practice yoga for approximately 30 minutes and it will be a standing practice. Then we will hike 3-4 miles. There will be mountain bikers but we will talk before the hike about what to do when you see a biker coming and how to practice good hiking and outdoor ethics.
Get Physical: Recommended skills for this hike: The ability to listen and follow instructions, walk independently or with light assistance with a single point cane or trek-pole, (Landloper has two pairs of trekking poles to borrow- first come first serve!) the ability to look for trip hazards, lift feet 3 inches from the ground, move to the side quickly and the ability to not touch or ingest the flora and fauna.
DOBRA Trail: Yes. This trail is shared with mountain bikers. We will be walking the opposite direction of the bikers and may have to move quickly towards the side of the trail to allow them the pass. Dogs and kids must be able to follow the landlopers instructions immediately. We will practice before we start the trail!
Trash Talk: Explore More encourages cleaning up the trail as we go. A grocery sack will be provided. Glove wearing is welcomed. We will make it fun and have prizes for whoever picks up the most trash.
Before your Hike: Dress appropriately and hydrate, even in cooler temps. If your lips are dry, you need more water. You might also need an electrolyte drink post hike (Gatorade, Propel, Body Armor) so bring one for your car. If you like pickles, pickle juice works well! Bring snacks or plan snacks for after hike if you like.
Family friendly: Yes! Your kids are welcome and FREE!! However, no strollers and make sure children can handle a 3 mile hike OR be held. Dogs are also welcome but must be on a leash and you must pack out poop. Be sure to have any baby carrying device you need and that kids and dogs can obey commands especially when we need to step aside so bikers can pass.
What you will get from us: You will have a fun experience, be led in an outdoor yoga class and guided hike and have a chance to unplug and enjoy some nature :).
Weather disclosure: If weather does not allow us to have our event or recent weather has caused the trail to close, we will either relocate, reschedule or refund your ticket price OR you can transfer to another event. Please check your email and the Facebook event for any updates.
