Hike and Meditation

Take time to reconnect with mind and body through an outdoor, in-person experience in the redwoods of Reinholdt Redwood Regional Park. Join us for a 3-mile (1.5-mile each way) peaceful hike on a flat trail (Stream Trail), with a short nature-based talk, and gently-guided mindful meditation practice. This event offers an opportunity to slow down, connect with yourself in nature, and enjoy a restorative morning in community.

We'll meet at the Redwood Gate entrance (7867 Redwood Rd, Oakland, CA 94619, free street parking, or $5/car for parking lot) at 9:45am. There will be some time for socializing as we begin the hike in, then pause for silent contemplation and communion with nature for the final 3/4-mile of the hike. We'll then gather under the trees for a 30-minute meditation/short talk, then hike back out. We expect to complete no later than noon.

Please bring comfortable walking shoes, something to sit on (chair, meditation cushion), waterproof layers (morning redwoods release the evening dew), and anything you need to feel at ease outdoors, including a water bottle and/or hot beverage.

The event is free, and donations are accepted.

NOTE: cell service in the park is unpredictable, and dependent on your carrier.

Your guides for the day:
Jill Pettegrew, LMFT, SEP, began her meditation practice in 2003 when life was feeling out-of-balance. In 2025 she became certified to teach meditation through MMTCP, a 2-year program with teachers Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield. Jill is also a licensed marriage family therapist, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, and avid hiker in the East Bay hills.

Karen Racanelli has been actively teaching yoga and/or mindful movement for over 20 years, as well as meditation for 3 years, following her certification from MMTCP in 2023. Additionally, she has completed a 5 month certification course in Mindful Mentoring through Banyan and a one year Buddhist dharma teacher certification course through Asheville Insight Meditation in North Carolina.
