High Line Spotlight: History
About this Event
Discover the story of the High Line, the park in the sky, on a free 90-minute tour. A docent will share High Line history from the early turn of the 20th century to the present day, offering an insider’s perspective on the elevated structure, before and after it became a park.
High Line History tours will be led by Richard Graziano and Brian Kilgannon on September 24 and October 29.

Tours proceed rain or shine, though cancellations may occur during extreme weather. Docent Bios:
Brian Kilgannon
A native New Yorker, born and raised in Brooklyn, attended Manhattan College (B.A.) as well as SUNY, The College at Old Westbury (M.A.). Brian spent an entire 36-year career in the Reinsurance industry as a Vice President of both Treaty & Facultative Reinsurance with three companies, retiring in 2015. He has been a Docent & a Greeter with Friends of the High Line since 2023 and thoroughly delights in meeting visitors to the High Line who come from around the world to share in the history, the sights, and the hospitality that New York offers to everyone who steps onto the High Line.
Richard Graziano
Dr. Richard Graziano is an educator with more than fifty years’ experience as a teacher in the New York City Public Schools and a professor in the City University of New York. He was Chair of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality at Kingsborough Community College.
Richard is a genealogist who has spent the last 15 years researching his family history. He is President of the Italian Genealogical Group and editor of their award-winning newsletter. He has published over a hundred articles in the newsletter and other publications.
Richard has been a volunteer on the High Line since 2015 and a docent for the last ten years. He is part of the team that trains new High Line docents.
