Explore Burbage Valley, take in the views from Higger Tor and spend some time sketching as we move between the views and rock formations.
About this Event

We’ll trace around the beautiful Burbage Valley, explore the rock formations, bridges and everything in between while pausing to do some sketching of what we see. No need to be pro, just a love for great chat, doodling and using your hands will do too!

Distance: approx 9km

Elevation: approx 234m

Grade: Mix of Moderate and Easy Hiking. Mix of footpaths and trails and some sections of the paths will be a little uneven underfoot at times. A few sections of elevation (worth it for the views!)

Time: 10am start for around 4 or 5 hours (depended on how we want to use our time on the day). Note we will meet by 9.50am to leave at 10am.

Who is the event for: Everybody is welcome! (aged 18+)

Who will be your guide?

I’m Sara and I’m an Artist and Hill and Moorland Leader based in West Sheffield on the edge of the Peak District. I’ve always been active but hiking became a real passion and I’m excited to share my love for adventure and the Peak District with you!

Where we'll meet:

We'll be meeting at Upper Burbage Bridge Car Park, Ringinglow Road, Hope Valley, S32 1BR.

What to bring:

  • Your sketch book and preferred sketching or drawing tools.
  • Hiking boots or shoes with good grip
  • Snacks or lunch to keep you happy and sustained for around 4 hours
  • Rucksack
  • Water (at least 1L)
  • Waterproofs
  • Warm layers, hat and gloves
  • A personal first aid kit with any medications or things you'd usually have on you
  • Optional extras: Walking poles, sit mat, hot drink, extra warm layers to stay warm when we stop to sketch.

What will the terrain be like?

Mostly trails and footpaths, some uneven and rocky areas, possibly some muddy sections, some areas of gentle elevation and some more concentrated up hills.

Note about Toilets:

There are no toilets at the car park. There won't be any along the way after that on the walk so we may have to embrace ‘wild wees’ whilst we’re out. There are plenty of little hidden spots if required. We can if needed add some extra distance to pop into the longshaw estate toilets on the way past (around half way).

Safety and your participation:

The core hope for my walks is that they are enjoyable and memorable experiences for everyone so we will keep to a slow and steady pace. It's about taking in the views, learning about the area and being outdoors in nature. You are also responsible for your own health and safety and there can be risks with all outdoor activities. You'll be asked to complete a medical form a couple of days before the walk to let me know of any medical conditions prior to the day. Every participant is required to complete this a minimum of 24 hours before the event begins.

I am a qualified Hill and Moorland Leader and Outdoor First Aid trained so will be on hand in case of an emergency.

Dogs:

No dogs on this event I'm afraid.

Refund Policy:

Refunds will only be given if the event is cancelled.

Weather:

This walk will be going ahead whatever the weather, unless I decide that the conditions will be dangerous or impractical for sketching. If I do have to cancel the walk for safety reasons, I will suggest one more date for the walk to be rearranged or offer a refund.
