Hidden History: Native Peoples and the American Revolution
Join us for a screening of an excerpt of the new Ken Burns documentary, "The American Revolution," which examines how America’s founding turned the world upside-down.
Following the screening, a panel of Native American historians will explore the formation of the United States and discuss who was entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Moderator:
Diane Orson, Special Correspondent with Connecticut Public and contributing reporter to National Public Radio.
Panelists:
Lorén Spears, a member of the Narragansett Tribal Nation and executive director of the Indigenous-led Tomaquag Museum in Rhode Island, and Nakai Clearwater Northup, a member of both the Mashantucket Pequot and Narragansett tribes. Additional panelist to be announced.
Screening and discussion begins at 6:00 pm. Join us for a reception from 5:30 pm to 6:00 pm.
