About this Event
Healing is growing all around us, often in the very places we overlook. Many of the plants and herbs commonly labeled as “weeds” are actually powerful sources of nourishment and natural medicine, rich in vitamins, minerals, and healing properties that have supported communities for generations.
This 90-minute guided plant walk at Carl W. Kroening Nature Center will invite participants to slow down, observe, and reconnect with the land. Together, we’ll explore the edible and medicinal plants growing along the Mississippi River corridor and learn how these plants can be used for wellness purposes.
Through hands-on learning and guided discussion, participants will discover how common plants support digestion, immunity, respiratory health, and overall vitality—reinforcing the truth that what we consume directly impacts our well-being.
🌱 Participants will learn:
- How to identify edible and medicinal plants growing in urban and natural spaces
- The nutritional and healing benefits of commonly found herbs and “weeds”
- Ethical wildcrafting and sustainable foraging practices
- Simple ways to incorporate plants into daily life through teas, tinctures, broths, and food
- The role of Indigenous and ancestral knowledge in herbalism and food-based healing
Each participant will receive a plant identification guide to support continued learning beyond the walk.
Whether you’re new to herbalism or looking to deepen your relationship with the land, this plant walk will help you see the hidden healing potential growing right beneath your feet.
