Heritage Walk: Heworth to the Angel of the North

This walk uses a map from 1895 to explore the area of Gateshead between Heworth and where the Angel of the North now stands.
We will walk past former wagonways, railways, collieries, quarries and a Roman road. There are stories of tragedies and love affairs, death and disease.
As this is a linear walk we will return by bus and Metro from the Angel of the North. The walk is about 6 miles long and includes hills on the route. Please wear comfortable shoes and clothing. As refreshments are not available on the route, please bring a packed lunch and a drink.
