About this Event
Homegrown Health - Herbal Remedies for Winter Wellness Discover how the herbs and everyday kitchen ingredients already in your pantry can help keep your family healthy throughout the holiday season.
Join herbalist Rachelan Griffin for an engaging workshop where you'll learn simple, time-tested ways to create natural remedies using common herbs and foods you can find in your own kitchen or local grocery store. Whether you're looking to soothe a scratchy throat, calm an upset stomach, ease a restless night, or support your family's wellness during cold and flu season, you'll leave with practical knowledge you can use right away.
During this informative class, you'll discover how to prepare easy herbal remedies, including:
- Warming herbal teas
- Soothing syrups
- Medicinal lozenges
- Tips for preserving herbs you grow or purchase
You'll also explore a fascinating — and often forgotten — chapter of American medical history known as Invalid Cooking, a form of therapeutic food preparation championed by pioneers such as Florence Nightingale and Clara Barton. Learn how nourishing foods and simple herbal preparations have long worked hand in hand to promote healing and recovery.
If time allows, participants will prepare a simple dried-herb tea blend to take home and enjoy.
Herbs featured during the workshop may include cinnamon, thyme, sage, chamomile, ginger, catnip, mint, rosewater, elderberry, lemon, honey, oranges, and more.
Please let the instructor know about any allergies before class so appropriate substitutions can be made.
All participants receive 20% off any plants purchased the day of the workshop
