He was a musician before he was a photographer. So when his friends started becoming famous, he already had a camera and their trust.That's how you end up with the album covers for Morrison Hotel and Sweet Baby James. That's how you end up dancing with Joni Mitchell at a love-in while the Eagles — still completely unknown — play nearby. That's how you end up at Woodstock.
On Friday, November 7 at 7pm, Henry Diltz brings his "California Dreamin'" slideshow to The Center for the Arts in Grass Valley. This is not a photography lecture. It's a large-format journey through some of the most iconic images of the 20th century, told in Diltz's own voice — including recently unearthed 16mm film of a stroll on Venice Beach with The Doors.
He has shot over 250 album covers. He holds Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Grammys, the Lucie Awards, and the International Photography Hall of Fame.
