This is designed to offer resource ideas, support, and education for those undertaking the noble journey of caregiving an older adult.
About this Event

Program is free, but registration is required by noon, Tuesday, July 16

The Boulder County Area Agency on Aging and AARP Colorado are offering Help for the Journey, six hours of education providing hope, information, and resources for caregivers of older adults. This program will include a box lunch. Participants can register for the full day and will receive a box lunch at no charge.

WHEN: Tuesday, July 23, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.

WHERE: Boulder County Southeast Hub, Rooms 131-133 (1755 S. Public Rd., Lafayette, CO)

Speaker Biographies

Brandy Queen, LPC

Brandy Queen is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Supportive Services Supervisor with Longmont Senior Services. She has worked primarily with older adults and family caregivers in Boulder County since 2010. Brandy has a passion for helping people connect with both resources and emotional support to help improve their quality of life. She also enjoys knitting, gardening, and birdwatching.

Kay Adams, MSW

Kay Adams has over 30 years of experience counseling and coaching individuals and families around a broad array of complex emotional and health-related challenges. She has worked extensively in the field of geriatrics, hospice, palliative care, mental health, and has served in a variety of capacities supporting those impacted by dementia since 2001. Kay founded Compassion Works, LLC to address the huge gaps that exist around educating and supporting family and professional dementia care partners.

Kay holds a MSW from Augsburg University. Kay is the author of the award-winning book, “Bedside Witness: Stories of Hope, Healing and Humanity.”.

While rejuvenating away from work, Kay relishes spending time with family and friends, being in nature, deepening her spiritual path, spoiling her pets, and belly laughing until she cries. Kay is a life-long learner who enjoys losing herself in a good book, writing, and traveling whenever she gets the chance.

Renita Henson, RN

Renita Henson, RN, BSN has been a nurse for more than 40 years. Her interest in nursing started at age 12 when her grandmother was very ill and had five surgeries over just a few years and needed Renita to be the helper. Since 2011 Renita has worked with people over the age of 55 to help them with wellness and staying out of the hospital. In 2017 she started a new program called A Day Place. A Day Place is located in Longmont and provides caregiver relief while keeping those that attend mentally and physically active which allows them to remain at home for much longer. Her experience with memory care is close to home as her mother is in the process of having memory and physical decline. She loves to teach everyone about wellness and staying well and preventing injuries.

Stacey James, MSPT, CMC

Stacey James, MSPT, CMC has provided care as a Physical Therapist for older people for 20 plus years. She provided this care in rehab facilities as well as in the Home Health Care arena (where she and Renita met and worked together). The last four years she has been a Geriatric Care Manager. Stacey loves to teach and help people use their bodies and strengths to the best of their ability.

Cassie Angerer

Cassie Angerer had been helping people age in place for 10 years. This includes home care, home health, and home modifications. She is a passionate advocate for older adults and their caregivers.
