Hella Juneteenth Festival — Futureproof Run (A 5K Run in Oakland)

We’re thrilled to reintroduce our community-centered 5K run/walk around Lake Merritt: Futureproof Run (formerly Freedom Run).

This year, we’re thrilled to welcome back Adidas and GU Energy Labs as our official sponsors, who will bless us with demo shoes, product samples, and hydration to get everyone ready for the run. We’re also bringing back familiar energy with Renegade and Town Strides, while welcoming Unseen into the mix as our official run club partners.

Whether you run, walk, jog, or simply want to pull up and support, you’re invited to join us.

There’s something special about looking around Lake Merritt and seeing hundreds of people choosing movement, joy, and connection at the same time. Different paces. Different stories. Different reasons for showing up. All moving through Oakland together, carrying the spirit of freedom forward with every step.

Following the run, join us for The Cool Down hosted by Town Strides at one of our beloved Black-owned bars, Lucy Blue, for a post-run hang with good music, food, drinks, and a few surprises

• Meet at Snow Park: 6:00 PM
• Adidas Demo Shoes + GU Energy Sampling: 6:00–6:30 PM
• Hella Juneteenth Welcome Remarks + Run Club Intros: 6:30-6:45 PM
• Warm-Up: 6:45–7:00 PM
• Futureproof Run Begins: 7:00–7:45 PM
• Post-Run Stretch at Snow Park: 7:45–8:00 PM
  

Pacers repping each run club will support paces from 8:00 min/mile to 11:30 min/miles.

We’ll be providing a limited number of complimentary selected food items at Lucy Blue, courtesy of our partner Adidas (thank you!).

Additional food and drinks will be available for purchase. Lucy Blue offers a full bar and food menu.

About Renegade

Born in Oakland, Renegade is a space for movement, connection, and community. They opened their doors in June 2020, centering their business on love, transformation, and inclusion. Whether you run, walk, cycle, meditate, or care for others—if you’re driven by purpose, you’re a renegade. Renegade just opened a second store in Los Angeles in the Silver Lake Area.

About Town Strides

Town Strides is a Bay Area wellness collective repping The Town and redefining what fitness looks like for the community. They host weekly runs, social events, group workouts, and more. Their run club welcomes all levels, with pace groups for runners, walkers, and everyone in between—creating space to grow, connect, and move with purpose.

About Unseen

An eclectic collective of runners representing all ability levels and backgrounds. Rooted in the idea of expanding running to people and areas normally unseen and overlooked by the majority of running communities.

Futureproof Run is part of Hella Juneteenth Week, a multi-day celebration leading up to our flagship event: Hella Juneteenth Festival at Cloud Park on Friday, June 19, from 12–6 PM.
