About this Event

So you’ve already taken a sashiko class at the Depot - or you've learned sashiko elsewhere on your own - but you want to learn how to draft and stitch more elaborate patterns? You need Sashiko 2.0! In this intermediate level class students will learn more advanced techniques than are covered in our introductory classes - such as how to trace grids, draft hexagonal patterns, overlay thread, etc.
Because prior knowledge of sashiko is a prerequisite, students should already be familiar with how to use sashiko needles and thimbles. The Depot will provide fabric, thread, scissors, and beeswax (or students are also welcome to bring their own). Sashiko thimbles will NOT be provided! Students must already have their own thimble and know how to use it. This class will include a quick refresher on their use, but will not include in depth instruction on basic skills. We want to be able to move as quickly as possible into the evening's topic.
Supplies can be sourced from Stone Mountain & Daughter (Berkeley), the Lacis Museum of Lace & Textile (Berkeley), or Kimonomomo (Oakland).
Instructor Cirrus Wood is a self-taught artisan who enjoys coming up with and learning new techniques to make clothing more visually appealing and more durable. He runs the mending and tailoring business Dollars & Yen which came about after years of casually combining elements of both Japanese and American design in his own wardrobe.
