Health Literacy Workshop
  • Participants in this in-person workshop must have successfully completed the Health Literacy Learning Camp (Introduction to Health Literacy).


DESCRIPTION

Join us for an interactive and collaborative workshop designed to refine and enhance your health education documents. No matter what form of education material you have created, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to receive valuable input from a diverse panel of experts, including writers, designers, and family-centered care team members.



OBJECTIVES

By the end of this presentation, you will be able to:

  • Describe the Health Literacy writing process used at Stanford Medicine Children's Health.
  • Understand and apply Health literacy writing and design best practices.
  • Differentiate between content that contains complex jargon and content that uses appropriate Health literacy writing and design techniques.
  • Demonstrate writing techniques needed to create a document at an appropriate reading level.


CONTINUING EDUCATION

Center for Professional Excellence and Inquiry is accredited as provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC). Provider Number P0668.

  • Number of ANCC Contact Hours: 2.0 hours

Nurses:

  • ANCC credits may only apply to specific certifications. To ensure your credits are valid, please verify with your state board or accrediting body whether they accept ANCC-approved continuing education.

Other Medical Professionals:

  • Contact your professional board to determine if they accept continuing education (CE) credits approved by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

Earning CE Credits

  • To be eligible for Continuing Education (CE) credits, participants are required to attend the entire course or event and complete the course evaluation. Partial credit cannot be granted for late arrivals or early departures.

Certificate Issuance and Record Keeping

  • CE certificates will be distributed within 30 days of course completion. Participants are responsible for maintaining their personal records of accrued CE documentation. Certificates must be retained for four years following the course date and are valid for a single use toward registered nurse license renewal.


TARGET AUDIENCE
  • Anyone who has completed the and is interested in working collaboratively with health literacy experts on an existing patient or family education material.


REGISTRATION and FEES
  • Stanford Medicine Children's Health Employees = $10 (plus service fees)
  • General Admission = $15 (plus service fees)

For Stanford Children's Health Employees:

  • For employment verification, please register using your Stanford work email and employee ID number.
  • The Center for Professional Excellence and Inquiry (CPE&I) accepts card payments ONLY for course fees and materials. Transfer of Funds are no longer accepted. Employees seeking reimbursement for educational expenses must obtain their manager's approval through Bright Horizon. Employees must submit proof of completion and receipts upon completion of a course in order to be reimbursed. Click for Reimbursement Guidelines.


CHANGES ON REGISTRATION
  • Log in to with the email address you used to register and manage your registration.
  • Join Waitlist: Please note that being on the waitlist does not guarantee enrollment to the course but it certainly increases your chances when an opening becomes available. Our waitlist is maintained on a first-come, first-served basis. Upon seat availability, you will be contacted automatically with further instructions on how to register.


CANCELLATION and REFUND
  • FULL REFUND for cancellations at least 2 weeks prior to class date.
  • NO REFUND for cancellations less than 5 days prior to class date.
  • For SCH Employees: NO SHOWS or cancellations on the day of class are considered unexcused absences. Managers will be notified. A medical note may be required in the event of illness or medical emergencies.
  • Cancellation by CPEI: Schedules, venues and details are subject to change and cancellation. Registered participants will be provided with as much advance notice as possible if this should occur. If CPEI cancels class, full refund will be given.
