Join us in person for the 25th Annual Health & Wellness Conference at the Fairview Community Health and Wellness Hub in Saint Paul, MN, USA. This workshop is geared for professionals working in various capacities with Deaf, Hard of Hearing, DeafBlind and/or Hearing people of all ages in the areas of Psychology and Mental Health, Chemical Dependency, Spirituality, Lifespan Services, Vocational Rehabilitation, Interpreting/Communication, Trauma, Domestic Violence, Advocacy, Education, Technology and Healthcare. Presenter: Deborah Mood, PhD
Deborah Mood, PhD is a Gallaudet-trained licensed psychologist specializing in working with children who are deaf/hard of hearing and children with neurodevelopmental disabilities. She completed an APPIC accredited psychology internship at University of Minnesota Medical School and a LEND postdoctoral fellowship at JFK Partners, University of Colorado. Dr. Mood is an associate professor at University of Colorado Anschutz, School of Medicine, Department of Developmental Pediatrics where she serves as lead psychologist on the developmental behavioral pediatrics D/HH team, microtia team and cochlear implant team. Dr. Mood is passionate about supporting children who are D/HH with co-occurring developmental disabilities and is affiliated faculty with the JFK Partners/Developmental Pediatrics Leadership and Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) program.
Description of Conference
DHH+ASD: Differential Diagnosis and Intervention Considerations
Summary of presentation:
The purpose of this program is to support attendees in recognizing symptoms of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to facilitate referrals for earlier diagnosis and to understand intervention considerations for DHH children with ASD.
Learning Objectives / Goals:
After this meeting, participants will be able to:
Describe core and unique symptoms of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in children who are deaf/hard of hearing (DHH) across developmental stages.
Identify formal and informal screening procedures and diagnostic tools for ASD, including those that have been validated for use with DHH children.
Summarize at least 3 developmentally appropriate interventions for DHH autistic children.
