About this Event

This intensive workshop is designed for youth development professionals and educators seeking to integrate the power of cultural wisdom into their practice to foster resilience and facilitate intergenerational healing for the families they serve.

We recognize that while families possess a profound reservoir of cultural values and traditions, they are often navigating the complex terrain of intergenerational trauma that can impede growth and well-being. This session provides a critical shift in perspective and practical tools for your professional toolkit.

You will first engage in a necessary process of self-reflection and introspection, examining how your own background and potential triggers influence your ability to effectively support clients. You will then learn an equity-focused framework that utilizes a family's cultural heritage as the primary asset for building sustainable resilience and profound healing.

Learning Objectives

Participants will leave this session prepared to apply the following in their professional practice:

  • Distinguish clearly between cultural wisdom (asset) and generational trauma (barrier).
  • Implement concrete tools for helping families identify, honor, and connect their existing traditions to core family values.
  • Identify and interpret parental/caregiver triggers as vital cues signaling past wounds or historical trauma.
  • Master strategies to help caregivers interrupt triggers and mitigate the onset of the sympathetic nervous system response.
  • Utilize a practical framework for intervening in and promoting the healing of intergenerational trauma.
