Harvest Ready - Chainsaw Safety Workshop
Facilitated by Ceilidh Meo – Long Road Olive Co-op
As part of the Harvest Ready Program, you're invited to join us for a practical, safety-focused Chainsaw Safety Workshop designed for beginners and those looking to build confidence using chainsaws for garden, orchard, or land-care work.
This 3-hour workshop combines clear, accessible theory with supervised hands-on practice. Participants will learn how to safely operate and maintain a chainsaw, understand key workplace health and safety (WHS) considerations, and develop correct techniques for pruning and cross-cutting logs.
The session will cover:
Identification and function of chainsaw parts
Core WHS principles and risk management when using chainsaws
Comparison of 2-stroke and electric chainsaws, including suitability for different tasks
Demonstration of safe techniques for pruning and cross-cutting logs
A supervised practical component to apply learning in a supported environment
This workshop is ideal for community members, volunteers, gardeners, and people interested in agricultural or land-care skills. No prior chainsaw experience is required.
Facilitator: Ceilidh Meo (Long Road Olive Co-op)
Date: Saturday 18th April, 2026
Time: 10:00am – 1:00pm
Location: Castlemaine Community House, 30 Templeton Street, Castlemaine
Fees: $50 per person**
** Access is free for all Fruit Crew (registered with The Orchard Keepers) and Harvest volunteers (registered with Growing Abundance Project).
Bring: Please bring your lunch, water bottle, sun hat and wear closed toe shoes. Gloves, helmets, ear protection and chaps will be provided but if you have your own gear and chainsaw, please bring that along too.
All training is delivered in a supportive, inclusive setting with a strong focus on safety and confidence-building.
Please note, this training is NOT an accredited course and certification cannot be provided for official units of competency.
