Hundreds of Battersea residents return to Thessaly Road each year for Happy Streets - a free, family arts festival packed with live performance, street food, and creative activities for all ages.
Back for 2026, the festival once again transforms Nine Elms into a traffic-free celebration space across Thessaly Road, St George’s Primary School, R.O.S.E Community Clubroom and Oasis Green Space, bringing together local partners, artists and community groups for a weekend of creativity and connection.
Saturday 4th July | 12pm–6pm
St George’s Primary School, Thessaly Road (road closed) & R.O.S.E Community Clubroom, SW8
Saturday brings a full day of high-energy performances on the solar powered Main Stage located at St George’s playground. Expect live music from World Heart Beat Music Academy latin band, alongside dance and movement tasters from MACS Dance, BollyCo, SASalsa and Reflect Martial Arts. Families can also enjoy interactive favourites like Baby Broadway sing along and MovementWorks’ family disco, with a vibrant steel pan finale from the Caribbe band.
At St George's Primary School, families can enjoy nature play with Ascend and Bloom in the Happiness Garden, designed especially for children aged 0–8. The Pen will host circus skills workshops from High Voltage Events, alongside football sessions with FAST London Youth Sports. For those looking for a quieter moment, The Zen Den by Ruckus Theatre offers mindful crafts and quieter activities inside the school.
Thessaly Road adds street food, FREE henna and face painting, smoothie bikes, and walkabout performances in striking costumes that spill across the neighbourhood. Don’t miss the parade on the road at 2.30pm, led by the New Orleans-inspired band from World Heart Beat Music Academy.
Across the road at R.O.S.E Community Clubroom, families can get stuck into a range of creative arts and crafts activities: from ‘Bags of Love’, a tote bag design workshop with Scene in London, to the ‘Happy Hands Bracelet Bar' and ‘Happy Caps’ - where you can customise your own baseball cap with bold graffiti-style designs..
In the garden, visitors can take part in the ever popular pizza-making sessions but also explore Wildlings, a relaxed nature activity zone offering informal planting and gardening advice, alongside a nature discovery trail for children with a prize at the end.
Sunday 5th July | 12pm–5pm
Oasis Green Space & Yvonne Carr Centre, SW8 4HT
Sunday slows the pace slightly but keeps the energy flowing with a strong community focus in the OASIS green space. Highlights include uplift performances from Baby Gospel, beatbox performances from Beatbox Academy, Bollywood dance workshops with Mohit Mathur and street dance party moments with Speaker Box Street Party.
Throughout the day, visitors can join relaxed creative activities including mindful crafts with Arty Pants, bubble workshops and ‘Nature Guardians’ making sessions with 575 Wandsworth Road - plus the ever popular face painting and henna. There’s also a brand new hands-on ‘Doll making workshop’ where participants can learn to design, assemble and decorate their own dolls using fabrics.
Caribbean street food, smoothie bikes and Happy Homes food & games return, keeping the Oasis Green Space a lively and welcoming hub for families.
Don’t miss the Disco Litter Queens, bringing disco moves and a groovy soundtrack to make tidying up the neighbourhood fun and cool.
Launched in July 2019, Happy Streets was inspired by London artist Yinka Ilori’s colourful redesign of the Thessaly Road railway underpass, connecting the Savona, Patmore and Carey Gardens estates - and continues to grow as a joyful celebration of local creativity, culture and community pride.
