Hannah is releasing her 12 track album Produced and Engineered with Vorn Colgan called Uncharted Waters. It features instrumentation by Hannah Simpson on the Vocals, Piano, Guitar, Flute and percussion; Vorn Colgan on the trombone, accordion, violin, and percussion; also with Linda Joy, vocals and trumpet. Hannahs song writing is unique and soulful with themes of love like an elaborate heart shaped quilt and politics weaved through her songs. She most recently played in gothic styled church SAINT PETERS JUNE 28th 2025 and also the UNDER CURRENT BOOKSHOP, APRIL 17th 2025 with band. She will be riding solo for THE PAISLEY STAGE show, but will surely entertain and wow with her full length album songs come to life!
One of the albums songs 'Water spirit' is a key track inspired by her time spent in 2016 busking with a flute and singing selling out her six track EP 'Love in the dreamscape matrix reality' of her old band Cherry's Gemstones first released in 2006. The conception for the track ‘Water Spirit’ came out of activism around the Water ways and an eco camp she attended about this in the South Island as a performer and singing teacher.
The ‘Water Spirit’ track and other songs from the album and Cherry’s Gemstones band EP have been played on Wellingtons Radio active 88.6 FM and Radio Access 106.1 FM. Her music has been play listed on these stations too.
She sold the Elongated Play ‘Love in the dreamscape’ out at a number of 300 copies in 2016 and when first released 200 copies in 2006 to 2008. Copies sat unsold in a box for ten years, but the woman is un-boxable and breaking out against the odds!
Hannah pursued her career as a Rock music school Director during the recession from 2009 to 2010 based at the ZEAL youth facility. After this she was trained as a Trapeze artist with FUSE CIRCUS in 2012 and auditioned for the circus school in Bristol, United Kingdom with track ‘Skater on ice’ as a backing track she sung and swung in a unique costume with feathers on its shoulders and bustle. She did not get in how ever and then a whole lot of other things happened...
In 2012 Hannah Simpson spent fifteen months in Bristol, UK, playing music and returned November 2013. Some of the projects since included 'High Resonators' with DJ Sulky (Matt Sullivan) a house electronic duo and singing for the Capital Gospel band for the Jazz Festival at Expressions 2015. She moved to Nelson and did some fairs and private shows there on her guitar and vocals in 2017, then relocated to Paraparaumu where she played with a group called the Avalanches as part of the Shed Project.
In England Hannah performed at The Arts House, The Duke, Left Bank and
Golden Lion venues in Bristol. She also had a residency stint at the Elbow
Room and performed at the Boston Tea Party Cafe. She sung lead vocals with Saint Michaels church and other churches for Christmas Carols in the park at Saint Andrews Park, entertaining families and children with lanterns of delight a glowing. She also did lead worship singing at Saint Michaels Anglican church for four months.
Shining like a star as part of the Cherry's Gemstones punkedalic group she released six track EP 'Love in the dreamscape matrix reality' in May 2006, Co-Produced with Engineer Justin Doyle at Blue Room Studios, whose credits include sound production for film District 9, produced by Peter Jackson and guitar technician for Shihads John Toogood. The group Cherry's Gemstones opened at the Wellington town hall for 2006 New Zealand music month to raving teen and adult fans. They toured the nation twice in 2006 and 2008 with the EP tunes and more.
In 2007 the Cherry's Gemstones group played at both the Wellington and
Auckland city art galleries with Disasteradio and visual jockeys the V-jettes.
They featured at album release events and festivals including the bands Minuit (Nelson) and Die! Die! Die! signed to Geffen label of Nirvana and also with Cortina, whom went to South by South West festival in America!
The group formed in 2003 disbanded when Hannah ran the Wellington School of Rock from 2009 - 2010 working with hundreds of young people to forge their musical passions, including music shop in stores at Music Works and radio live to airs. The work was focused on developing musical ability and self-esteem building. After finishing the Wellington School of Rock Hannah worked with the Viva special abilities social club to bring music, film and social events. She taught singing at Red Maids in Westbury on Trym for the Bristol Rock Project and teaches private music students from time to time.
In March 2016 Hannah began to sale out the Cherry’s Gemstones 2016 release ‘Love in the Dreamscape Matrix Reality and was re-listed and charted on Radio Active in doing so. The non-conventional method of busking with a peace flute and person to person promotion and sales approach was great. She travelled North and South to do this.
In 2017 Hannah taught at Youth ECO CAMP singing! She also featured in a More FM youth event staged on the Nelson Tahuna beach front in a wet suit.
Hannah felt a draw North and began travelling post this camp to bless sacred water ways. She performed at Art Deco weekend singing and on grand piano and was given the name brave heart for her Water Way Protection message of No Deep Sea Drilling – Upper plate only. A kai Manawa moana heart vision for the sea drills not to be in the lower plate, which she believes can cause shaking for the nation and oil spill effect into the seas affecting the kai food resource. Her track 'Water Spirit' is for the nation and the worlds nations at this point in history to inspire Governance and people not to mine the precious water ways.
