Hands Across Shoop Park

On July 7th the Racine Common Council voted to forward an agreement with the Leipold Johnson Golf Group for shoreline stabilization, habitat restoration, clubhouse construction, and a long-term lease for the operation and maintenance of Shoop Park. Part of Craig Leipold’s vision is to create an artificial "dune style" golf course by removing 100's of trees and replacing with sand and concrete.
I have this simple idea that Racine doesn't want or need a luxury golf course to take over the public space given to us by Dr. Shoop. If you are part of the growing number of people concerned with the damage this will cause to the lakefront ecosystem, then join us in a circle of hands on the west lawn of the Wind Point Lighthouse grounds, the location of the future luxury clubhouse parking lot. We will gather with like-minded people and share why this space is so meaningful to us. I hope this event will create awareness of the destruction of this precious wildlife habitat coming soon to the shoreline of Racine.
