In this workshop, students will learn to make a traditional Ethiopian Binding with wood covers. Students will learn historic methods of paper folding, paper slitting, and the traditional four-needle chain stitch that is decorative, strong, and flexible. Enjoy the merits of 6th century technology!
The book will be filled with mixed media paper and will open quite flat. The wood covers can be decorated post workshop. This style of book can be made with encaustic panels that are already completed, but for this hands-on workshop we will use plain wood to make a model to guide future bookmaking. Handouts and all materials will be provided.
