About this Event
Get crafty and celebrate Halloween/Samhain with Wild South London at this free event in Beckenham Place Park!
Make a wildlife mask from recycled materials, then pick up a map for our Trick or Tree Trail, which will lead you to different trees around the park where you can learn more about spooky flora and fauna. Bring your map back with items ticked off to claim a treat.
We’ll be based in the FSC Classroom in the courtyard of Beckenham Place Park (next to Homestead Cafe) between 11am and 1:45pm. This is a drop-in event designed for children aged 3+ (all children MUST be accompanied by an adult) but adults are welcome - and encouraged - to take part too! You can come and go as you please, but if you book a free ticket it’d really help us to get an idea of numbers so we know how many materials to bring along.
We are also hosting a folklore walk for bigger kids (aged 12+) and adults at 3pm - book your free ticket for that here.
Here’s what you can expect:
- Make a fox mask from an egg box or an owl mask from a paper plate - or go freestyle with the materials provided.
- Pick up a Trick or Tree Trail map and go on a treasure hunt around the park. Once you’ve ticked off each point on the map (or as many as you can), come back to the FSC classroom to claim a lolly (while stocks last).
- Colour in your map, or other wildlife/Halloween-themed colouring sheets with the crayons provided.
- Learn more about the wildlife in the park from Wild South London trustees and the books and flyers available in the classroom.
We’re also hosting a folklore walk (aimed at adults and bigger kids) at 3pm. Find out details and book your free place here.
About :
Wild South London is a community group which aims to raise awareness of local biodiversity and promote conservation and appreciation of nature. Through walks, talks and hands-on workshops, the group will educate and inspire local people on topics such as sustainable foraging and identification of plants, animals and fungi. They will also show people how to record finds to contribute to local biodiversity data - all while promoting the positive health and wellbeing impacts of engaging with nature.
