On October 30th of 2025, Angel and Phil Simon walked down Main Street in Greenfield, new keys in hand, into the Victoria Bar and immediately started serving their new clientele. In the whirlwind year since, they have met hundreds if not thousands of people in this cozy downtown location, hired new employees, hosted events, and applied their energy to a blossoming downtown.

On October 31st, they will be hosting their one-year anniversary party, a Masquerade Ball featuring DJ Dad of the Year aka Sean Nolan, one of their regular DJs from a weekly series the new bar owners initiated over the winter. Interested party goers will have the opportunity to make their own masquerade masks that week in a participatory art session hosted by local artist Danielle Lucier.

Greenfield residents will know Lucier from her work in other townwide art projects including the sidewalk paintings celebrating America’s 250th birthday, glass paintings on the windows of Greenspace and Liberty Tax, and numerous creative workshops at the Greenfield Public Library. She is hard at work on Chapman Street, painting an extensive mural on the side of the Maniatty Building, portraying a Victorian era scene that attracts people to the bar and downtown alike.

“Our first motto was ‘If you’re awake, we’re open,’ ''says Phil Simon. “We were embracing a new venture, pouring our time and energy into this wonderful establishment that has been serving the community since 1933. Our newest motto that adorns our new merch is ‘We are all friends here’ as that is what we have discovered: being embraced by and embracing an entire community of people that we never knew despite living in the area for decades.”

Angel’s plan all along has been to bring together different people in a casual and fun setting so that everyone can experience our commonalities, realizing we have more in common than differences. Their son Sam has joined the team tending bar and hosting a weekly Wednesday night Magic the Gathering event, making “the Vic,” as it’s affectionately known, a true family affair. Other events include weekly karaoke, DJ nights, card games, watch parties for sporting events, and more.

The Vic is now the official pub partner of the New England Revolution (MLS soccer) and the watch party location for the Pioneer Valley Armoury (Premier League soccer and Arsenal fan club). Says Phil, "The Vic continues a years-long Sunday afternoon tradition of hosting Pitch with our faithful regulars who encourage others to join. Every night of the week has fans lined up at the bar watching the Sox, the Pats, the Bruins, and any number of sporting events on our TVs around the bar. We are also open to hosting new events if people wish. Birthday parties have become common, often on our DJ nights. Folks should let us know if they want to bring their party to the Vic!"
