Susan Apps-Bodilly will present “Seeds in Soil: Planting a Garden and Finding Your Roots” on April 15, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Mount Horeb’s downtown Driftless Historium (100 S 2nd St). With spring just around the corner, April’s Half-Hour History spotlights gardening—with a dash of history, and a sprinkling of science! Join author and educator Apps-Bodilly as she uses the stories of immigrants, First Nations, and her own family to explore how growers, new and experienced, can forge connections both under and above ground.
Susan Apps-Bodilly is a retired elementary and middle-school educator with a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from UW-Madison. She is also the author of "One Room Schools – Stories from the Days of 1 Room, 1 Teacher, 8 Grades," as well as a coauthor, (alongside beloved Wisconsin author and father Jerry Apps), of "Old Farm Country Cookbooks" and "Timber! A Northwoods Story of Lumberjacks, Logging, and the Land." When Susan is not reading or writing, she enjoys spending time with her family, hiking at the family cabin, kayaking, and trying new recipes with produce from her garden.
Half-Hour History is a once-a-month midday speaker series featuring engaging presentations on local and regional history. Generously supported through a grant from the Mount Horeb Community Foundation, these FREE programs are open to all and take place at the Driftless Historium at 1:00 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month.
