About this Event

Join us at Hains Point on August 29th from 10am to 12pm to stand up for the beloved public space around East Potomac Park.

We’re coming together to demonstrate our support for the park, to call for accountability and transparency, and to show solidarity between all park visitors.

The future of Hains Point at East Potomac Park is uncertain. Rumors have swirled for months about the potential imminent redevelopment of the East Links Golf Course that could take over the public space around East Potomac Park– the beloved destination for picnic go-ers, cyclists, walkers, runners, birdwatchers, anglers, and more. September 1st had been announced as the day construction would begin, though no plans have been shared publicly to date.

We’re holding the line: Hains Point should be for people! We need a future for the park that continues to support all visitors who enjoy the public space. Hear from elected leaders including DC Councilmember Charles Allen and from advocates, and get an update on the ongoing lawsuit to protect the park from the DC Preservation League.

Join a quick tour with the DC Bird Alliance. Complete a couple loops around Ohio Drive by bike or on foot. Demonstrate to federal and local officials what this place means to DMV residents and that we will not sit idly by while one of the great public spaces in DC is threatened.

This event is led by WABA and Save East Po with support from the DC Preservation League, National Parks Conservation Association, and DC Bird Alliance.
