Capitol Hill Tree Tours
About this Event
Join educational arborist, Sam Nelson, for a guided walking tour of some of D.C.'s best trees around and near the United States Capitol. We'll discuss 140+ year old oak trees planted in the 19th century and also meet trees with natural histories that date back 200+ million years on Earth. This ~1 mile walking tour will be a mix of plant science, tree stories, local history, and American history, plus time to slow down and appreciate the beauty of plants and landscapes in our capitol city.
*Please note that Sam Nelson is not affiliated with the U.S. Capitol. He is a teacher, writer, naturalist ,and ISA arborist who loves sharing stories about trees and with trees.
**All tours are subject to route adjustments depending on hard-to-predict to changes access to the U.S. Capitol lawns. However, Sam knows A LOT of trees in the area, and we'll see something amazing together no matter what. Taking metro or bicycles to the the meeting point will help mitigate issues around access since parking and driving continue to change.
