Exciting news! We are delighted to announce a Guru Padmasambhava Conference that brings together scholarship, sacred practice, and living culture to illuminate the profound historical and spiritual connections between Guru Padmasambhava and the sacred land of Odisha.This unique gathering will explore Odisha as Uddiyāna / Oḍḍiviśa, long associated with the birthplace and activity of Guru Padmasambhava, and will revisit India’s best-kept Buddhist cultural heritage through historical, textual, and archaeological inquiry. Key themes include Odisha as the birthplace of Guru Padmasambhava, the life story of Guru Padmasambhava within India, the link between Oḍḍiviśa and Padmasambhava, the tantric Buddhist masters of Odisha and their works, the symbolism of Buddhist stupas across Maritime Asia, and the Eight Manifestations of Padmasambhava (Guru Tsen Gye) within the Nyingma tradition.
And perhaps best of all, for those who cannot attend in person, the entire program will be livestreamed, allowing participants from around the world to join this historic occasion. The program will include the recitation of the Life of Guru Padmasambhava at the sacred historical site itself, with nearly 1,000 participants, and all are warmly welcome. This will be followed by a Buddhist scholarly conference to deepen our understanding of this extraordinary site and its connection to Guru Padmasambhava and the Vajrayana tradition, and will conclude with cultural offerings from the great Buddhist and artistic communities of Odisha, celebrating the living heritage of the land.
