Lumpkin St.), an ecumenical campus ministry serving students at the University of Georgia since 1940, invites community members to safely dispose of unwanted firearms at our upcoming Guns to Gardens event. Professional blacksmiths from RAWtools South will be on-site to dismantle firearms so they are no longer legally considered guns, transforming them into garden tools and art.
The event will take place Saturday, March 28, from 12:00 p.m to 3:00 p.m.
This is a simple, practical, and non-political way for individuals to remove a firearm they no longer want in their home. Many gun owners have firearms that were inherited, rarely used, or no longer needed. This event provides a safe and respectful way to dispose of them—no questions asked.
Participants are invited to bring unloaded, working firearms of any kind.�As a thank-you, donors will receive a gift card once the gun has been fully disabled:
$100 for rifles or shotguns
$200 for handguns
$300 for assault-style weapons�(as supplies last)
More than 300 million firearms are currently in American homes, and many sit unused for years. For some households, removing an unsecured or no-longer-needed gun can bring peace of mind and reduce the risk of accidental harm, theft, or misuse. While over 43,000 Americans die each year from gun-related causes, many responsible gun owners agree that practical steps toward safety can save lives.
Our intent is not to challenge anyone’s right to own a gun. Rather, Guns to Gardens offers a faithful, community-centered way to honor those who choose to let go of a firearm they no longer need. It is a ministry rooted in the biblical hope for peace, inspired by the prophet Isaiah’s vision:
“They shall beat their swords into plowshares�
and their spears into pruning hooks;�
nation shall not lift up sword against nation,�
neither shall they learn war any more.” — Isaiah 2:4
