GUINEA HEAT (February)| WEST AFRICAN DANCE CLASS SERIES

Class Details

A few steps up from AFRIKA95's Guinea Flavor series, Guinea Heat is a special edition intensive class focused on Guinea dance technique, creative choreography, and conditioning. Supported by live drumming, this class is designed for dance enthusiasts with previous dance experience looking to build on the basics and improve their craft.

Your instructor is Naimah, a trained West African Dance teacher and performer of 20 years. Her inviting spirit and contagious energy will keep you on your toes and having a good time as she carries us deeper into true Guinea energy.

Participant Info

Classes are held twice per month and are limited to 12 students per session ($25 per session). Registration will not be available at the door on the day of the first class. Choreo learning and technique lessons are spread out over both sessions, so it is suggested that you join for both sessions.

Students should be 16 or older. Class participants are expected to wear comfortable workout attire (leggings, tank tops, biker shorts, sports bra) and to bring a loose skirt or a traditional West African Lappa. Participants will be expected to dance barefoot, and to be highly attentive. Bring water to stay hydrated!

Location Info

Classes will be held at the MORTAR Building. (2453 Gilbert Ave.), on the 4th floor. An AFRIKA95 representative will be present to help guide you through check-in and to the class location. Please refer to the map for parking details. Food and beverage can be purchased after class at the building's cafe or at local neighborhood eateries.
