Guardians of Deep Creek Reserve – Community Working Bee
📍 Deep Creek Reserve, Torbay
📅 3rd Sunday of every month
⏰ From 9am – approx. 110am
📌 Meet at Mawson Ave park entrance (near #11), Torbay
Join our super-motivated Guardians of Deep Creek Reserve as we give this special reserve some well-deserved aroha!
Predator control efforts are already smashing possum and rat numbers — and now the weeds are on notice too. This park is getting ALL the aroha.
Did you know possums can eat around 1.5kg of vegetation every night? With predator numbers dropping, our Deep Creek trees have a real chance to flourish — and with that comes more birdsong, more birdlife, and nature thriving once again.
This newly formed group is full of energy and passion, and we’d love you to be part of the journey as we transform Deep Creek Reserve into something truly stunning.
🌿 What we’ll be doing:
• Removing invasive weeds threatening native plants
• Supporting restoration planting areas
* Learning about predator control
• Learning plant ID and control methods
• General reserve tidy-up and care
Viv will be there to help you identify native plants and show you how to effectively remove pest plants, including safe herbicide use.
🧤 What to bring:
• Gardening gloves
• Secateurs or silky saw (if you have them)
• Spade (optional)
• Drink bottle & snacks
• Sunscreen & mozzie spray
• Sturdy footwear & weather-appropriate clothing
All tools and training provided.
Come along anytime from 8.30am — stay for as little or as long as you like. It’s a fun, social morning making a real difference for local biodiversity.
