Growing Dahlias: A Program by Isaac Wyatt

Join us for this free program as Isaac Wyatt talks about the beautiful Bullington Gardens dahlia garden in Hendersonville. His program will cover methods for successful dahlia culture: site selection, soil prep, planting, watering and how to care for the plants, from selecting firm tubers with visible "eyes," planting in well-draining soil after the last spring frost, pinching the main stem to encourage abundant blooms, and overwintering.
Isaac Wyatt, education director for Bullington, served as a county agriculture agent before joining Bullington Gardens. He has been growing dahlias since the ripe age of 12, when he grew his first black satin. Later, during high school, he ran a cut flower business, cultivating more than 50 varieties of dahlias.
