Celebration of Gorges State Park- Transylvania County, NC
About this Event
You are invited to join the Old-Growth Forest Network and Gorges State Park to celebrate the induction of the Auger Hole Trail into the Network! The Old-Growth Forest Network is creating a map of mature, protected forests, and the people who steward them.
Gorges State park has been selected as the Transylvania Co, NC representative as a site with incredible biodiversity and a forest that may have escaped historic logging extraction. The celebration will be held on September 11, 2026, from 1 - 3 PM at the Frozen Creek Trailhead. There will be brief remarks by OGFN and park staff before a moderate difficulty, guided interpretive hike to view the mature forest on the trail. Attendees are encouraged to prepare with full water bottles, sunscreen and hats, appropriate footwear for a moderate hike, and anything else that would make the approximately 2 hour event comfortable.
We hope you will consider joining us for this event recognizing the forest and the people who care for it. See you there!
Please note: parking is limited so this event is limited to 20 attendees. Please carpool if possible and register all guests intending to attend.
