All are welcome, whether you knew Ethan well, met him once, rode with him, learned from him, benefited from his advocacy (if you walked or rode a bike in town, you have!), or simply want to honor the kind of community he helped build.
After the service, people may ride back in small groups or make their own way home.
Ethan gave so much of himself to Rochester. Riding together is one small way we can show our gratitude, support his family and friends, and carry forward his commitment to a community where everyone belongs.

A few words from our Organizations:
Ethan was a beloved husband to MaKayla, devoted father to Helen and Isaac, and a friend to so many in Rochester. He passed away on June 3 following a diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
Many of us knew Ethan through group rides, public meetings, school trips, and his steady work to make Rochester a safer, more welcoming place for people walking, biking, rolling, and simply trying to belong. His approach was patient, generous, thoughtful, and deeply rooted in care for his family, neighbors, native plants, public spaces, and the long-term health of our city.
At Pata de Perro’s Public Workshops, where neighbors come together to repair and refurbish bikes, Ethan showed up the way he did everything: with his whole family. He would load Helen and Isaac into their cargo bike and ride over together. It wasn’t easy. The kids were young, and trying to focus on a repair while keeping an eye on them at the same time is its own kind of work. But they came anyway. Helen would help clean bikes. Isaac would follow his big sister wherever she went. And on the days Ethan couldn’t quite manage both, MaKayla would stop between her shifts at the clinic and help out. Ethan was kind and welcoming to every volunteer and every neighbor who walked through the door. But sharing his family with us, letting us be part of that, that’s how welcoming Ethan was.
With love and care,
