About this Event

story told by its co-founder and leading light, Alison Hastie is an inspiring and uplifting celebration of enterprise, feminism, conscience and creativity

Through personal tragedies, romantic relationships, motherhood, friendship, fire, flood and professional highs and lows, Alison describes her place in a long line of West Country radicals and traces the history of shoemaking in history and politics.

Above all Alison shows us the importance of being centred in place, time and community

In 1981, shoemaker, Alison Hastie co-founded Green Shoes, a women’s collective shoemaking business, in Totnes, Devon, making long-lasting and comfortable shoes by hand.

For fifty years Alison has lived on Dartmoor, where she has raised her family and been invloved in radical community activities including the Dart magazine and the multi-generational MED Theatre
