About this Event

You’re invited to clean out your cupboards, resist consumerism, and find new treasures at a Green Kitchen Swap hosted by the DC Regional Chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier and Poplar, in partnership with Teaism, DC Ecowomen, and Slow Food DC.

When: Sunday, February 22nd, from 10am–1pm

Where: Poplar, 701 Kennedy St NW, Washington, DC 20011

Tickets: $10 (We want this event to be accessible to all, so please use the promo code “FREESWAP” if you’re not in a position to pay right now.)

Whether you’re cleaning house for the new year, have forgotten gadgets piling up in your kitchen, or you’re trying a no-buy challenge, this event is a great way to declutter your space, avoid waste and overconsumption, and get things you need without spending money. Bring your unwanted kitchen supplies to give away and swap with others! All are welcome.

There will be tea and scones to enjoy as you mingle and browse. Representatives from the hosting organizations, as well as Reuse DC, Eat or Toss, and To Go Green, will be available throughout the event to chat about reuse, sustainability, how the local food system can be a force for good, and how to get involved with any of our organizations.

Suggested items to swap include: cookware, bakeware, servingware, dishware, glassware, tools/gadgets, utensils, cutlery, aprons, linens (towels, napkins, tablecloths, placemats), trivets, table decor, cookbooks, storage containers, tote bags/reusable grocery bags, etc. Items must be clean and in good, working condition (or new!). No disposable items or food, please. If you have any questions about what we recommend bringing, please email [email protected].

Note: This is an event promoting reuse and avoiding purchasing new items. Please be mindful and considerate of others, but don't be shy about taking things! We'll be freely giving and freely taking, with no expectations in either direction. The more we can keep out of the landfill and the less demand we create for brand new products, the better! Feel free to pick up items to give to friends or family. Any goods left at the end of the event will be donated to local mutual aid organizations.

Street parking available around the restaurant. Poplar will be closed for service, so they will not be offering food or drink for purchase.

This event is open to the public. Registration required. Don’t delay, secure your spot now!
