Step aboard for a journey into one of Providence’s most fascinating hidden landscapes—Green Jacket Shoal, a stretch of river where history rests just below the surface at India Point. Guided by our crew and regional maritime experts, this narrated cruise reveals the stories of the wooden vessels abandoned here more than a century ago, now preserved in the shallow waters of the Providence River.
As you glide past the shoal, you’ll learn how these shipwrecks came to rest in this unlikely place, what they tell us about Rhode Island’s industrial past, and how archaeologists study them today. From forgotten workboats to remnants of coastal trade, each wreck adds a new layer to the city’s maritime story.
This tour blends scenic river views with real historical insight—an approachable, engaging experience for curious explorers, history lovers, and anyone who’s ever wondered what lies beneath the water’s surface.
We’re proud to offer these tours in memory of Pete Manning — historian, mariner, and longtime friend of David’s. In Pete’s honor, a portion of all ticket sales will benefit the East Providence Historical Society.
