About this Event
This event is free and does not require pre-registration. Check in at the Visitor Center at 1700 Elkhorn Road when you arrive! All birding levels are welcome and binoculars are available to borrow! We will move at a slow pace, mostly sitting or standing quietly to look for birds. Therefore, we do not recommend bringing young children.
Join us during Great Backyard Bird Count weekend for an afternoon of backyard birding along our ADA-accessible trail and to learn how you can participate in this annual community science project!
Our Visitor Center native plant garden and the adjacent oak woodlands and maritime chaparral are home to a wide variety of birds, including some of our soon-to-depart overwintering migrants like Lincoln’s Sparrow, Fox Sparrow, Hermit Thrush, and Say’s Phoebe. Participating in the GBBC each year is a great way to make new discoveries in your own backyard! This project also helps scientists better understand and track global bird populations over time.
