About this Event
Join us for the opening of Memories, Maps, Reflections, a captivating exhibition by textile artist Bettina Matzkuhn that explores the intricate relationship between memory, emotion, and place.
Drawing on cartography as both method and metaphor, Matzkuhn’s embroidered works challenge the idea that maps are objective records of space. Instead, they reveal how memory is shaped by feeling—distorted, selective, and deeply personal. Each piece becomes a reflection of lived experience, where landscapes are reimagined through moments, impressions, and emotional connections.
From imagined journeys across Canada to intimate observations of neighbourhood streets, these works invite viewers to reconsider how we navigate the world around us—and within ourselves.
Inspired by the idea that we are shaped by our memories as much as we shape them, this exhibition offers a space to pause, reflect, and see familiar places in new ways.
