About this Event
MACHINE LEARNING AND AI WORKSHOP
This event is free for SEPnet postgraduate researchers and you should be able to claim for your travel expenses either from your department or RTSG. If in doubt, please ask your department about the arrangements for claiming for your travel.
Who: PhD students with a basic understanding of ML who want to develop and apply ML and AI techniques to improve their physics and astronomy analyses.
What: A 1-day workshop that consists of pre-session material and tutorials to ensure delegates get the chance to learn about modern methods and have the opportunity to get hands-on experience in a supportive environment.
When: 1000-1700 on Wednesday, 20 November 2024
Where: International Students House, 229 Great Portland St, London W1B 1PF
Numbers: Circa 40 delegates
This machine learning and AI workshop provides an overview of the use of modern data science and AI methods in the context of physics and related problems. It comprises pre-reading activities, practical tutorials and discussion sessions to allow participants to explore methods and help develop an understanding of what tools and methods work well under different circumstances.
The workshop will be of interest to researchers working on data-rich theoretical and experimental projects, not just for their studies in astronomy and particle physics but also in many other applications of data science in industry and society. This will equip graduates for their PhD and future work.
Requirements: A laptop computer is required to participate in this course, along with competency in python, and basic understanding of ML.
