Gordon McKinney is a gem of artist, hailing from Okhlahoma, he sings songs of love, life & tragedy in a way that just warms up a room. We are so pleased that he's coming back over to play. Full biog below.
Gordon Mckinney is a songwriter from Oklahoma. His songs sound like our most secret of diary entries.
With his delicate finger picking, self deprecating humour and master storytelling, Gordon paints pictures of our combined experience. The release of his 2023 album "Bitter Homes & Gordon" has attracted the attention of festivals and studios alike.
Gordon was invited to perform and record at the infamous Church Studios (home of Shelter Records, built by Leon Russell) in Tulsa. In addition, Gordon has been invited to play the Norman Music Festival and perform as a featured artist at the renowned Woody Guthrie folk festival. In June 2024, Gordon released "Life Is Longer Than It Needs To Be." It is a 5 song, self produced EP that investigates mental health without judgement or apology. The songs are sparsely orchestrated, deeply personal and hauntingly honest.
The SIlver Reserve
Matthew Sturgess, who performs as ‘The Silver Reserve’, plays delicate, sparse music on a classical guitar, crafting intricate melodies around thoughtful and evocative lyrics. At times creating dense, layered atmospherics, this is music that doesn’t rush and takes its sweet, sad time to unfurl and sneak under the skin.
We all need a back-up, right? Something we keep in reserve for bolster and balance. A stockpile of what we most need when we most need it. The Silver Reserve is the solo vehicle for songwriter Matthew Sturgess whose beautifully crafted songs take their time to mesmerise, sooth, jolt and enchant. Beauty, darkness, hope, and joy are carefully observed in lyrics that celebrate the detail of living, and feel instantly recognisable and authentic. Melody and harmony thrive in delicate guitar driven arrangements and complex soundscapes. A performance finds you holding your breath. It’s music that gets into your bones.
HELEN MCCOOKERYBOOK
“Helen McCookerybook’s lyrics, frank and idiosyncratic, find poetry in the everyday- shards of broken glass in the ice cream.” – David Sheppard, Art & Music: the Saatchi Magazine
“… acoustically led, her songs are of love, politics and quite possibly, the kitchen sink, and her voice is pure as crystal.” – Paul Scott-Bates, Louder Than War
