Good Friday is an austere time of reflection, intercession, and adoration of Christ as the sacrificial Lamb of God. The Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ is read from St. John’s account because it is that gospel reading of the crucifixion which stresses the victory of cross. As we contemplate Jesus’ death upon the cross, the Solemn Reproaches are sung, an ancient prayer of Western Christianity which rehearses God’s faithfulness throughout human history and our unfaithfulness.
