Back the Shelter. Pack the Meeting. The Fayette County Animal Shelter is down to only one full-time employee. One person is responsible for feeding and caring for every animal, cleaning kennels, handling adoptions, responding to strays and animal control calls, and transporting animals to vet appointments. Volunteers are very limited in what they are allowed to do, and the shelter hours make finding capable volunteers very difficult. A second full-time position was already in the budget. The shelter asked for it. The Council voted no.
What happens when that one full-time person gets sick? Has an emergency? Needs a day off? The animals don't stop needing care, and volunteers can't be expected to fill that gap every time.
This isn't a political issue. It's a basic question of responsibility and compassion.
Come to the next County Council meeting and show them that Fayette County is paying attention. You don't have to say a word. Just showing up sends a message. But if you want to speak, even better.
The animals in our shelter deserve consistent care. Let's make sure they get it.
