Becky has been offering yoga and restorative practices since 2013, adding in sound to her offerings in 2017 to bring a holistic approach to supporting well-being. Gong Baths completely immerse, or bathe, you in sound, facilitating a space in which you can explore your subconscious and could be described as a form of sound meditation. Each experience of a Gong Bath will be unique and people are often presented with the experience that they need in the moment. Some people fall asleep, some experience visions, some see colour, others have physical sensations.
Gong Baths usually last for just over an hour. Participants lay on a yoga mat or padded mat or can be seated for the duration of the Gong Bath. After settling in with some breath work or guided relaxation the gongs will be played alongside a variety of instruments including; shruti box, crystal singing bowls, metal singing bowls, drums and the voice.
Playing the gongs creates a vast soundscape that is profoundly moving. The vibrations from the gongs can reduce stress by affecting autonomic balance, encouraging activation of the parasympathetic nervous system which is responsible for our rest, digestion and healing. The sound and frequency of the gongs during a gong bath wash over participants and may evoke feelings of relaxation, calm and balance whilst inviting the listener into a state of openness in which to process subconscious thoughts or feelings. This spontaneous meditative state induced by the gongs creates a sense of expansion and deeper awareness, and can be a truly amazing experience!
Following a gong bath people often report increased feelings of wellbeing, contentment and balance, improved sleep quality, reduction in feelings of stress or anxiety alongside other physical benefits.
Are Gong Baths suitable for everyone?
No. There are some exclusions.... Gong Baths are not suitable in the following circumstances:

Tinnitus (affects people differently - some people are ok, give me a call to discuss)
Schizophrenia/Bi-polar or any severe mental health condition, especially where feeling detached is not helpful

Very low blood pressure or low blood sugars can also be affected due to the changes to autonomic function.
