In 2019 three long-standing Bay Area musicians came together pre-pandemic looking for fresh musical adventures. Having played for years in more genre-defined bands, they were seeking something open-ended, something that would grow out of improvisation, and something that would reflect their shared love of the musically eclectic and cinematic.
Covid lockdowns put the project on hold, but gifted some valuable writing time, adding tightly composed songs to anchor the more freewheeling moments. You could find musical reference points in the sounds of say Beck, Khraungbin, and Tortoise, but somehow Gold Band pull together and celebrate this diversity making it something unique and very much their own.
