About this Event
My name is Helen McCormick and I'm a local artist and qualified art teacher. I've been creating objects from clay for over 28 years, and I still absolutely love the process. I am passionate about teaching and have created this workshop to share my skills, knowledge and experience.
My workshop is designed to be a relaxed friendly space where you can meet new people and have the opportunity to create, learn and have fun. Throughout the day I will teach you traditional hand-building skills and techniques to create a beautiful Gluggle Jug. You will learn coiling and slab building as well as how to add details and colour to your work. Your gluggle jug will be a small to medium size jug, to achieve the project in one day.
All materials and equipment will be provided. Tea and Coffee will be available throughout the day. The only thing you need to bring is a packed lunch and an apron or wear old clothes. If you can trim your nails before hand that would be helpful as you will be handling soft clay.
After the workshop, I will carefully take your beautiful jug home and fire it in my kiln. Your jug will be glazed using a stoneware transparent glaze, which will make them food safe. Your jug will be ready to collect approximately in 6 weeks after the workshop. I will let you know a date and time for collection once they have been fired.
NB: I am happy to store your work for 6 months from the collection date, after which it will be donated to charity.
There is FREE parking at the Walronds. The carpark is located at the back of the building. To access the carpark you will need to turn up Tiverton Road off the High Street, and then turn left just before the fire station onto Shortlands Lane. It is a narrow lane and easily missed. Drive a few yards up the lane and you will see the sign for the carpark on the left. Turn left and follow the drive through the gate ahead. Here is a link to Google Maps which should take you right to the carpark entrance. https://goo.gl/maps/JKfioUFi3FCSnCHJ9
