About this Event
Join us on April 30th for this Global Health Research Spotlight featuring Ami S. Bhatt, MD, PhD, discussing her collaborative, community-engaged research efforts to map the African gut microbiome.
About Ami S. Bhatt
Ami Bhatt is a Professor at Stanford University in the Departments of Medicine (Hematology; Blood & Marrow Transplantation) and Genetics. A physician-scientist with a strong interest in microbial genomics and metagenomics, she leads a lab that develops and applies novel molecular and computational tools to study the human microbiome. She examines how microbes evolve and adapt, how they use microproteins to “talk” to one another and to human cells, and uses this knowledge to improve health and treat diseases.
Dr. Bhatt also leads efforts to ensure that global communities can benefit from advances in research and medicine. She carries out research with the H3Africa Genomics Consortium, volunteers for the nonprofit she co-founder, Global Oncology, and serves as the Director for Global Oncology for Stanford’s Center for Innovation in Global Health.
She has received multiple awards for her work and is a committed mentor.
