This crossbody purse invites participants-especially young makers-to explore the timeless craft of basket weaving through a fresh, wearable project: a one-of-a-kind crossbody purse.
Using a mix of basket reed, hemp, natural fibers, and cordage, we'll guide you through foundational weaving techniques that blend rustic charm with modern flair. Along the way, you'll learn how to shape, pattern, and personalize your piece-no prior experience needed, just a willingness to play with texture and form.
More than just a purse, this project is a celebration of heritage and handwork-an invitation to slow down, make something meaningful, and discover the magic weaving.

About the Instructor:
Melinda is a nature-inspired artisan and educator with over 40 years of experience in business management, administration, garden design, plant cultivation, artisan crafts, and basket weaving. She has been teaching and inspiring people of all ages about the environment and inspiring a love for nature for decades. Her journey began on a thriving herb farm, where she grew thousands of plant varieties and discovered a love for crafting with natural materials. Basket weaving soon became a passion, leading to workshops that blend tradition, creativity, and connection. As co-Founder and Executive Director of Beech Creek Botanical Garden & Nature Preserve, Melinda developed exhibits, programs, and youth initiatives that fostered environmental awareness and hands-on learning. Now through her new business, Flowers & Forest, LLC, she offers garden consulting and Artisan workshops that celebrate the artistry of nature and the joy of making.
