A labyrinth is an ancient symbol found all over the world. It is essentially a path that meanders backwards and forwards on itself, but always leads the walker to its centre, and then back out again. This type of path is known as a ‘unicursal’ path – one path in and one path out. While some may compare the labyrinth to a maze, the comparison is inaccurate. A maze is a puzzle designed to block you as you try to find your way from A to B, often symbolising a stressed and confused life. On the other hand, the labyrinth is a meandering path that leads you forward with no dead ends or false paths. It guides you to its centre and safely back out again, serving as a metaphor for a well-balanced life heading in a positive direction.
Walking the labyrinth allows us to spend time with ourselves, our thoughts, feelings, and emotions, potentially gaining a better understanding of our issues, and how to work through them. At the very least, we may experience a sense of peace. The labyrinth teaches us that taking our time, and being mindful of where we are, who we are, and where we are going leads to a better life and experiences.
I work with the labyrinth magically as well as mindfully. It is a liminal space that allows us to walk between worlds, to access Spirt, the Gods, Ancestors… it can enhance our magical practice and focus our intent. It is as protective a space as the Magic Circle… indeed, it holds the imagery of the circle and the spiral contained within its walls.
This talk will introduce you to the magic of the labyrinth. We will explore its history, its magic, how to draw them and how to use a finger labyrinth in magical practice… and so much more.
7.30pm for 8pm.
