Coast-Kyst-Strönd brings together Haftor Medbøe (guitar and electronics), Gunnar Halle (trumpet, voice and electronics) and Signy Jakobsdottir (drums, percussion and electronics) performing a programme of collectively composed music. The work draws on the musicians’ eclectic musical backgrounds that span jazz, improvised music, traditional and folk musics, pop, rock and electronica. Together they create a sumptuous sound world with strident melodies over lush harmonies and intricate textures. Acoustica marries with electronica in a fusion of Nordic sensibilities that pushes at the edges of genre and invites the audience into a warm, embracing space.

Haftor Medbøe is a Norwegian-born guitarist, composer and academic living in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Haftor has released 15 albums with collaborating international artists including Jacob Karlzon (SWE), Espen Eriksen (NO) and Gunnar Halle (NO), Fabio Giachino (IT), Pete Furniss (UK) Tom Bancroft (UK)), Anneke Kampman (UK), Eva Malling (DK), Signy Jacobsdottir (IS), Konrad Wiszniewski (UK), Chris Greive (AUS).
As a composer, Haftor has scored music for numerous film and television productions including Building a Nation (Wark Clements for BBC) and the multi award-winning Tartan Short, Cry For Bobo (David Cairns). Other composition credits include the 2014 son et lumiere production, A Night at The Royal Botanical Gardens (Edinburgh), collaborative installation pieces with artists Tove Hirth, Niina Turtola, Alan Kilpatrick, Michele Marcoux, productions by choreographer/film-maker Katrina MacPherson and commissioned responses to a number of major exhibitions for the National Galleries of Scotland.
Haftor is Professor Emeritus of Jazz & Improvised Music, Edinburgh Napier University, where he gained his doctoral degree in 2013. He is an internationally published researcher in the field of new jazz studies and has presented conference papers throughout Europe. Haftor is founding Chair of the Scottish Jazz Archive, on the board of Directors for the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival and a Trustee for An Tobar and Mull Theatre. He is also co-Editor in Chief for Jazz Research Journal, Equinox Publishing.
Haftor runs his own record label, Copperfly Records and is partner in its consultancy spin-off, Copperfly Collective.

Gunnar Halle is a Norwegian trumpet player living in Oslo, playing mainly with Norwegian, Danish and Swedish groups.
The second album 'Halle's Planet came out November 1st 2019 on Ozella Music, with extra drummer Wetle Holte on board. This time the album is one hundred % instrumental, with beats that stands both noisy melodic statements and pensive airy improvisations. The music was recorded live in studio, at Engfeldt and Forsgren Studios in Oslo. In april 2015 the first album in Halle's name, Istanbul Sky was released, also at Ozella Music, and since then he has been touring with his own quartet:
Gunnar Halle - trumpet, synth, Stephan Sieben – guitar, Putte Johander – bass, Knut Finsrud – drums.
In recent years he has also played with Kirsti Huke - Weaving, duo with pianoplayer Espen Eriksen, Pierre Dørge & The New Jungle Orchestra, Lars Andreas Haug - LaBand, Josefine Lindstrand, Mari Boine, Eivind Aarset Sonic Codex, Kim Kristensen and many others.
Beside being a musician he also work in his home-studio, recording trumpet, synth and sometimes voice. The album Istanbul Sky was made in this studio, and he has made additional recordings for Harald Øhrn, Wetle Holte, Josefine Cronholm, Nana Jacobi, Berke Can Ozcan, Thommy Andersson, and many more. He has also composed and produced music for documentary film.

Scottish-Icelandic percussionist Signy Jakobsdottir is to be found regularly gigging, touring, recording, and accompanying dance. She has been developing her unique style throughout her varied career, creating groove and using unusual percussion instruments for texture, atmosphere, and melody. She has experience working with gamelan orchestra, contemporary dance, and traditional folk music and has recently been developing her own compositional style and performing as a solo artist using drums, kalimba, and loop pedals. She has toured the globe from Venezuela to Indonesia, and loves being part of Glasgow’s vibrant music scene.
